Social and Emotional Learning

To succeed in school, students need to be engaged, interested, and excited to be there. Founder’s Letter

Randy Taran Dear Friends, Several years ago, I just read books on happiness for my own personal pleasure. When my own child started to show signs of stress and then depression, I ached for a way to help. In trying to find out more, I discovered how many young people are struggling with similar issues.

A Brief History

Project Happiness began as a film project. After the cameras stopped rolling, Randy Taran founded Project Happiness a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization to bring students and participants together and reflect on the extraordinary journey they had just completed. The goal was to make happiness possible for all. The outcome was a 195 page student handbook with over 70 exercises for kids, by kids. However, we are finding that adults benefit from and genuinely enjoy the book as much as young adults!

The curriculum is being used in many settings; an affluent high school in Silicon Valley devastated by 4 suicides in one year, elementary school in San Francisco’s gang-war epicenter, and in international cities like Nepal, Guatemala, India and Nigeria. Over 1,500 students across the globe are learning to use compassion & kindness in conjunction with math & science to shape a happier healthier future.

Happiness is contagious!

Project Happiness is dedicated to empowering individuals to create authentic happiness through innovative education, digital media, and the arts. We are leading a movement of people of all ages and backgrounds committed to choosing happier, more meaningful lives.

Combining timeless wisdom with the best positive psychology and neuro-scientific research, our programs inspire individuals to begin the journey of self-discovery.

Project Happiness is headquartered in Palo Alto, California.
